1. Doctor in Distress (1985)

    master-assassin-turlough:

Eighteen months is too long to wait!

Bring back the Doctor don’t hesitate!

It was a cold wet night in November,

    Twenty-two years ago…

There was a police box in a junkyard,

We didn’t know where it would go.

An old man took two teachers,

    Into time and space.

    It started off a legend,

    That no other could replace.

    Doctor in distress,

    Let’s all answer his S.O.S.,

    Doctor in distress,

Bring him back now we won’t take less.

    Where’s the Doctor, over there!

    There were evil metal creatures,

    Who tried to EXTERMINATE!

    Inside each of their casings,

Was a bubbling lump of hate.

    We met cybernetic humans,

    With no feelings at all.

    Warriors of the ice,

Who stood over seven feet tall.

    Doctor in distress,

    Let’s all answer his S.O.S.,

    Doctor in distress,

Bring him back now we won’t take less.

Bring him back now we won’t take less,

If we stop his travels he’ll be in a mess,

The galaxy will fall to evil once more,

With nightmarish monsters fighting a war.

    Doctor in distress,

Bring him back now we won’t take less.

    Doctor, Doctor, Doc-torrrr…!

We’ve learned to accept six Doctors,

    With companions at their side.

When they were faced with dangers,

    They didn’t run, they didn’t hide…

There was a Brigadier and a Master

    Hahahahaha…!

    And a canine computer!

    Each screaming girl just hoped,

That a Yeti wouldn’t shoot her.

    Doctor in distress,

    Let’s all answer his S.O.S.,

    Doctor in distress,

Bring him back now, we won’t take less.

    Doctor in distress,

    Let’s all answer his S.O.S.,

    Doctor in distress,

Bring him back now, we won’t take less.

I actually got a retweet from Paul Cornell over a “Doctor In Distress” reference a couple of weeks ago.

  3. Depressing thought of the day:

    marigoldsky:

I watched Survival this week, which means I have now seen all the Ainley!Master episodes. There is nothing more left. :(

    …maybe that’s why I still haven’t watched it after all these years…

    Thank you, Anthony.

    For your work.

    For your letters.

    For your kindness.

    For everything.

Happy birthday, my friend. I love you and I miss you, now and always.

  6. My complaints about the BBC in regards to their treatment of Classic Who

    lady-sci-fi:

It seems as though the BBC doesn’t care enough to even attempt to make anything concerning Classic Who. Yes, it’s great that they’re putting all the stories on DVD, but that’s the absolute least they can do.

There was a line of BBC published books called the Past Doctor Adventures, which focused on the first seven doctors. It started in June 1997, and ran until December 2005. The Eighth Doctor adventures ran from June 1997 to June 2005.

The revived show started in 2005, and with that, the BBC decided to completely stop their Past/Eighth Doctor Adventures novels, in order to focus on making books for the new show. I understand wanting to have novels for the new show, but to completely stop the line of the other books was unnecessary. Why not have both series going?

The Short Trips short stories books were started by the BBC in 1999, and had three entries. In 2002, Big Finish got the rights to do these, and their series ran from 2002 until April 2009. This ended because the BBC didn’t renew Big Finish’s license. I don’t know the reason, but with this ended anything to do with the first eight doctors being in books.

By ending all adventures of the Classic doctors in book form, I guess the BBC is saying that no one wants to read stuff about them anymore. Why would you want to read about them when there’s three new Doctors? In my opinion, they’re alienating fans of the Classic doctors.

Thankfully, Big Finish has the rights to do just about anything with the past Doctors and companions for their lines of Doctor Who audios. They have Doctors 4 through 8 doing stuff, and they’re still telling stories about the first three Doctors through their Companion Chronicles and Lost Stories.

Without Big Finish, there would be nothing new concerning the Classic Doctors. I hope they keep their license for a very long time.

Why couldn’t Tom Baker have worn that white shirt/red pants outfit in more than just The Deadly Assassin?
